How to sell online in India without buying stock (2026 guide)
Start selling online in India with no inventory: how it works, what it really costs, the questions to ask any partner, and how cash on delivery and returns work.

In short
To sell online without stock, you need three things: a storefront (a Shopify store or an Arta site), a catalogue partner whose suppliers hold the stock and ship each order, and clear terms for cash on delivery, returns and payouts. Before you choose a partner, ask what you pay to join, what is included in the product price, what a returned parcel costs and when you are paid. With Arta: nothing to join, delivery and COD fees and GST included in Arta's price, returns charged by weight at courier rates, and payouts daily, 4 days after delivery.
How selling without stock works
- Pick a storefront. A Shopify store or an Arta site. Both work the same way with Arta.
- Add products from a catalogue and set your own selling price.
- A customer orders, paying online or cash on delivery.
- The supplier packs it and the partner ships it, tracks it and follows up if it isn't delivered.
- You keep the margin: your price minus the partner's price, paid after delivery.

Model your margin before you start
Your profit on a product is your selling price minus the partner's price, minus what you spend on ads per delivered order, minus the cost of parcels that come back. Test a few products with a small budget first, and watch delivered orders, not placed orders.
Cash on delivery and returns, briefly
Most Indian shoppers still pay cash on delivery, and some refuse the parcel at the door; it then returns to origin (RTO). Ask how risky cash orders are confirmed before they ship. On Arta, RTO Shield confirms them on WhatsApp, AI voice calls can confirm them by phone, and Arta's in-house AI rates every order's RTO risk.
If you sold on Roposo Clout
Roposo Clout's marketplace services were permanently discontinued from 1 April 2026, according to its own notice. If you are moving your store, the same questions above apply. With Arta you can keep your Shopify store and add Arta's catalogue to it.
